Pre-Season

Build Strength, Build Fitness, Stay Engaged, & Have Fun

Preseason is a program for athletes in grades 8-12 who are ready to build fitness, strength and work towards getting out on the bikes after a long winter. Enjoy team camaraderie, refresh skills, and get base miles to prepare for spring and summer rides. Preseason is an excellent opportunity to build foundational strength and endurance before the spring season starts.

This program includes 7 weeks of afternoon strength training and 3 Sunday rides. Athletes who sign up for the Preseason program will work with a professional trainer and ride with SMBA coaches and other SMBA athletes. The program is designed to help athletes build strength and fitness in a positive and non-competitive environment. Workouts are organized around a progression of core strength, upper body strength, leg strength, speed and base miles. Preseason athletes will have the opportunity to work with a coach in the Gym and on a variety of trails.

  • Strength Training Sessions: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 3:15pm  – 4:00pm, February 2nd – March 18th
  • Sunday Rides: 11am – 1pm (February 28, March 7, and March 14)

Athletes must be comfortable balancing, pedaling, braking, and riding natural surface trails. To ride the trails safely, athletes must have a properly fitting, trail-ready mountain bike in good working condition. We recommend bikes with at least 26” sized tires. Athletes should also have a comfortable hydration pack or backpack with a water reservoir (e.g. camelback) and enough space to hold food for on-trail lunch or snacks, a jacket for colder weather conditions, and equipment necessary to change a flat tire and make minor trail-side repairs/adjustments.
