Explorer Camp, Grades 5 – 8

Summer Camps – Explorers Grade 5-8

Practice skills, build confidence & explore new trails

Explorers is a summer camp program for 5th – 8th grade athletes who have basic bike handling skills, are comfortable riding on singletrack, and want to explore longer and more challenging rides around Boulder and Lyons.

This is a 4-day camp for athletes who want to build upon the skills they have learned in previous camps and explore the more challenging terrain offered on Boulder’s city and county open space trail systems. During each ride, coaches foster teamwork and camaraderie; and work with athletes to practice proper technique for navigating technical sections of trail, proper trail etiquette on multi-use trails, and basic trail side bike repairs.

The Explorers camp provides athletes to practice their bike handling skills and learn new skills within a positive and encouraging environment. Each day the camp explores a different trail or trail system with varied terrain, new challenges, and numerous opportunities to practice skills.

  • Mondays: Flatirons Vista & Doudy Draw
  • Tuesdays: Betasso
  • Wednesdays: Valmont
  • Thursdays: Heil (Picture Rock) or Hall Ranch

Athletes participating in the camp programs must have a trail-ready bike in safe working condition with: hand brakes, multiple gears, and a minimum 24” wheel size. Because the entire day is spent on the trail, athletes must have a comfortable hydration pack or backpack that can carry the following items: lunch, snacks, water, sunscreen, rain jacket, and an extra tube. We highly recommend a CamelBak type hydration pack with a built in water reservoir and storage compartments.
