Junior Rider Camp, Grade 2 – 5
Learn new skills, build confidence on the bike, and summer fun on the trails.
Junior riders is a summer camp program designed to introduce young riders (grades 2-5) to the sport of mountain biking through full day adventures on Boulder’s city and county open space trail systems.
This is a 4-day camp for beginner mountain bikers who want to learn how to ride on singletrack. Each day of camp, coaches work with athletes to learn skills necessary to safely navigate technical trails and practice proper trail etiquette on multi-use trails. Through fun skills games, lots of trail time, and an encouraging environment, athletes build confidence on their bikes, make new friends, and practice new skills on the trail.
The Junior Riders camp provides young athletes with the opportunity to learn and practice the following basic bike skills: braking, shifting, balance/proper form, getting started on hills, riding over rocks and roots, trail etiquette, and on trail bike maintenance (e.g. pre-ride bike check, flat tire change, minor adjustments and chain fixes). Each day the camps explore a different trail or trail system with varied terrain and numerous opportunities to learn and practice skills.
Mondays: Valmont Bike Park
Tuesdays: Foothills-Eagle Trail/Boulder Valley Ranch
Wednesdays: Marshall Mesa
Thursdays: Doudy Draw
Athletes participating in the camp programs must have a trail-ready bike in safe working condition with: hand brakes, multiple gears, and a minimum 20” wheel size. Because the entire day is spent on the trail, athletes must have a comfortable hydration pack or backpack that can carry the following items: lunch, snacks, water, sunscreen, rain jacket, and an extra tube. We highly recommend a CamelBak type hydration pack with a built in water reservoir and storage compartments.
