SMBA Team Program

Welcome to Colorado’s premier junior development mountain bike program!

Since 1993 SMBA has built champions in sport and in life. The SMBA Team is a camaraderie-based program that cheers every rider on through their individual success both on and off the bike.  Our goal is to foster a life-long love of the sport through lots of fun adventures, team camaraderie and a lot of time spent the trail. 

 

Team athletes learn how to face challenges on the trail with a positive attitude, work hard towards goals, build sportsmanship skills, be ambassadors of the sport and stewards of the land, and become amazing mountain bikers. 

 

Through the SMBA progression, Team athletes dedicate time to having fun riding on trails and mastering mountain bike skills that provide for success, safety, and a lifelong love of the sport!

 

Note: At SMBA we welcome all athletes who want to mountain bike and build team camaraderie. Our coaches provide coaching support for SMBA athletes who ride just for the fun of riding as well as athletes who have specific ride goals.   While we do offer program options that include team travel and coach support for athletes who are interested in learning more about racing; participation in competitive events or racing is not a requirement to participate in the SMBA Team program. 

 

 

SMBA Team Programs Include:

Van transportation to and from trails, coaching, riding on a variety of trails and trail systems, team camaraderie, fun and adventures on the bike, trail stewardship, mentoring/ leadership opportunities, skills intensives, optional race support, and more! 

 

SMBA team athletes learn about all elements of the sport of mountain biking including trail navigation, trail etiquette riding uphill and downhill on technical trails, endurance/long-distance adventures, and good sportsmanship. 

 

 Athletes should have participated in at least one camp or have experience riding a mountain bike on singletrack trails with technical features and uphill prior to signing up for the Team program.

 

Spring – The SMBA Team season begins in late-March /early April with after school and/or Sunday rides. Spring training and riding is an important part of building base miles, endurance, and strength for summer mountain bike adventures. Participation in the spring session is highly encouraged for athletes who plan to participate in the summer Team program.

 

Summer – Two 4-week summer sessions follow spring. The first session runs through June and the second session runs through July.  The Summer Team program offers all day rides Monday-Thursday, as well as add-on Downhill Skills Intensive Fridays and specialty add-on ride or race adventures on some weekends.

 

Fall – The Fall Session starts up at the end of August and once again offers weekday after school and/or Sunday rides through October. Fall riding is one of the best times to be out on the bike in the front range!
