Each spring during Volunteer Week, Boulder County honors individuals or groups with its Land Conservation Awards for outstanding contributions made to the conservation, preservation and protection of land-based environmental resources. This year the Partnership Award will be given to the Singletrack Mountain Bike Adventures for outstanding achievement in the Partnership Initiative Program through the contribution of over 1,800 volunteer hours while participating in 17 projects over the last 7 years. Singletrack Mountain Bike Adventures (SMBA) has been a trail stewardship partner for Boulder County Parks & Open Space since 2010 and is the longest running, independent junior mountain bike program which introduces youth riders to the sport. At Betasso Preserve, they have constructed 1,450’ and maintained 650’ of trail. More recently, their youthful energy has focused on Heil Valley Ranch where they restored 3,900’ and constructed 200’ of trail along with installing 4 water drainages. In addition, they restored 500’ of social trail at Hall Ranch.
Along with other Land Conservation Award winners, we will be celebrating the Singletrack Mountain Bike Adventures’ accomplishments at the Land Conservation Awards ceremony on Wednesday, April 26 from 3-4 p.m. at the Boulder County Parks & Open Space headquarters in Longmont.
