Welcome to Colorado’s premier junior development mountain bike program
The SMBA Team builds champions in sport and in life. The team is a camaraderie based program that cheers every rider on through their individual success, in which riders learn to challenge themselves, set goals and work hard. SMBA offers riders the chance to give back to the community, be advocates for cycling, to build good sportsmanship and become amazing riders. Through the SMBA progression riders dedicate time to skill mastery in the early stages of the sport that provide for success, safety, and of course FUN!
SMBA team programs include, advanced coaching, singletrack trail riding, community stewardship, “Big Buddy, Little Buddy” mentoring, special events, fun days, skills intensives, optional races and more. SMBA athletes learn about ALL elements of the sport of mountain biking including cross country, dual slalom, enduro, short track, downhill and more.
The SMBA Team starts training in February with Pre-season training after school and on weekends followed by the Spring Break Moab trip and Spring Training after school and/or on weekends. Spring training and riding is an important part of building strength for summer riding and racing and is highly encouraged.
Following spring training is two summer sessions, one at the beginning of the summer and on at the end. Summer riding is offered all day, almost every day, with Team rides Monday-Thursday and Skills Intensives and racing Friday-Sunday most weekends.
In the Fall SMBA once again offers weekday and/or weekend training rides as well as the SMBA Cyclocross program that begins in the fall and goes through winter.
Racing is optional but encouraged. SMBA offers support at races including transportation in the SMBA vans, coaching and supervision, camping or lodging, pit space and mechanical support.
