Preseason is very dynamic, during the week, athletes will be training indoors at the gym and, on the weekends riding trails (when the weather permits), riding road, hiking, or inside for video analysis. Trails will include Marshal Mesa, Betasso, North Table Mountain Hall Ranch and Heil Valley Ranch.

To insure a safe and pleasant day of cycling, please be sure that your child’s bike is in good working condition. Please visit Tin Shed Sports for a free safety check. Other local shops provide safety checks for a nominal fee.

Nutritious Items that hold up on the trail include:
Nut butters, jerky, apples, oranges, energy bars, dried fruit, nuts, string cheese, hummus, pretzels, cold pizza, burritos, carrots, celery, radishes, sugar snap peas, sliced bell peppers, and sandwiches.
Please avoid:
Most dairy products (e.g. yogurt, milk, soft cheese), fragile fruit (e.g. bananas, strawberries, grapes), sodas, mayonnaise, and high sugar snacks. SMBA does not allow athletes to consume caffeine at SMBA practices, races or camps.

Weekdays:
Drop off: SMBA Pre-Season will meet at the gym. Athletes are asked to arrive on time and check in the SMBA coach. The team will then head to the spin room, or group training facilities for that days strength and conditioning work out.
Snacks: Please eat a small snack afterschool to optimize energy and results.
Pick Up: Parents are encouraged to speak with the coaches about their child’s progress.
Sundays:
Drop off: SMBA will meet at the SMBA office. Athletes are asked to arrive on time and check in the SMBA coach. The Team will then load the SMBA vans or ride to the trailhead where we will begin our ride. Athletes can expect to ride for 2.5 – 3 hours at a moderate pace.
Snacks: Please bring snacks for the trail.
Pick Up: Please pick up your athlete at the SMBA office at the end of practice. Parents are encouraged to speak with the coaches about their child’s progress.
