Spring Session is the perfect time to get outside, build fitness and review skills. Although there is never a bad time to join the SMBA Team, the spring is the best time to learn the ropes. Spring rides meet two days a week and one day on the weekend. Riders are encouraged to be at as many rides as possible but the training is built so that even just one day a week is good start toward being ready for summer.
If you have weekend or after school obligations, check out the part time option. Riders may choose to sign up for just the weekday rides or the weekend rides. Swapping between weekends and weekdays is not permitted. If you would like to do both weekends and weekdays please sign up for the full time option.
April 1 – May 24:
Grade 8-12: Tuesday, Thursday 4:15pm – 6:45pm and Sunday 10:00 am – 4:00pm

Weekend: Rides will consist of trails in Golden, Boulder, Lyons and Nederland; like Lair o the Bear, Hall Ranch, Centennial Cone, and Mud Lake.
Weekday: During the week rides will be closer to the office including trails like Marshal Mesa, Betasso, and Heil Valley Ranch.

To insure a safe and pleasant day of cycling, please be sure that your child’s bike is in good working condition. Please visit Tin Shed Sports for a free safety check. Other local shops provide safety checks for a nominal fee.

- Backpack or hydration pack to carry the following while riding:

- Spare tube (check the tube size and valve type)
- $5 for special treats
Nutritious Items that hold up on the trail include:
Nut butters, jerky, apples, oranges, energy bars, dried fruit, nuts, string cheese, hummus, pretzels, cold pizza, burritos, carrots, celery, radishes, sugar snap peas, sliced bell peppers, and sandwiches.
Most dairy products (e.g. yogurt, milk, soft cheese), fragile fruit (e.g. bananas, strawberries, grapes), sodas, mayonnaise, and high sugar snacks. SMBA does not allow athletes to consume caffeine at SMBA practices, races or camps.
Drop Off: Drop Off: At drop off there will be a coach there to great you, as well as, other athletes being dropped off. Athletes are asked to arrive on time and check in with their coach. This is a great time to speak with the coach about any allergies, medical issues or concerns you may have. Please remind your athlete that riding at this time is not OK. Please make sure that your athlete is prepared for the day before leaving. This includes: bike, shoes, helmet, tube, small tool, water and food.
Ride: After everyone has been checked in, the athletes will go with their coach for the day and begin camp activities. Athletes will do introductions, a bike safety check and either load the vans for departure or begin riding from the office. Rides will be medium in intensity and skill as athletes get geared up for summer. Each ride will focus building strength, speed and endurance.
Snack and Lunch: On weekdays please eat a small snack after school to optimize energy and fun. On weekend rides, the team will be stopping for snack breaks and a lunch break on the trail.
Pick Up: SMBA Team athletes will return to the SMBA office after each day. Athletes may ride home if they have a signed permission slip. If a group will be late, we will do our best to notify parents and guardians as soon as possible. Please allow for a small window, as ride lengths may vary. At the end of the day, coaches will be present to assist with questions and to let parents/guardians know if any issues arose during the day. Parents are encouraged to speak with the coaches about their child’s progress.
